Welcoming Karen Silverman to Our Advisory Board
Karen Silverman has joined Ajax's Advisory Board. We build AI-powered timekeeping for lawyers, which means we spend our days on questions Karen has spent her career answering - what it takes to put AI inside institutions that run on trust. Over the past few months we've talked with her about legal tech, why accurate timekeeping is so stubbornly hard, and where AI actually earns its keep in a law firm. A few of those conversations have already turned into ideas for the product.
Karen's Background:
Karen founded The Cantellus Group and runs it as CEO, advising major companies, startups, and governments on AI and emerging tech strategy. The through-line of her work is practical governance - what organizations actually do when frontier technology, law, and ethics all land on the same desk.
Before Cantellus, Karen spent over 20 years at Latham & Watkins, one of the world's leading law firms, where among other roles she was Office Managing Partner for San Francisco. Her practice was global antitrust and competition law: complex M&A regulatory matters, plus AI governance work. She also built Latham's global M&A competition practice, so she knows from the inside what modern law firms need and how they change.
The recognition list is long. The Financial Times named her a Top Ten Legal Innovator, and she's one of the 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics. She's contributed to AI governance frameworks with the World Economic Forum's Global AI Council, where she served as a Global Innovator and member of their Experts Network.
Karen's board work runs in the same direction. She's a member of the aiEDU board, which supports AI-related curricula for K-12 schools, and formerly Chairman of the Board for Krunam, a public benefit corporation developing complex content moderation tools. She's also a member of the ABA Task Force on Law and Artificial Intelligence and sits on the Fast Company Impact Council.
On paper: a J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, a B.A. from Wellesley College, and the Executive Program in Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Business Strategy at MIT Sloan School of Management.
What's Next
We're glad she's here. Ajax has to be two things at once - genuinely advanced and genuinely safe for a law firm to rely on - and Karen has worked at exactly that line for years. We'll share more as we go. For now, back to making timekeeping less of a headache for lawyers everywhere.
