The LegalWeek 2026 Survival Guide: Everything You Need to Know (+ the Big Move to Javits Center)

For 25 years, attending LegalWeek meant camping out in the Hilton Midtown lobby.
You know the drill.
Navigate the crowded escalators, grab an overpriced coffee, and run into three former colleagues on your way to a session. If you needed a quiet place for an impromptu meeting, you simply ducked out the front doors and walked into any of the dozen coffee shops or hotel bars within a two-block radius.
This year that completely changes. For the first time in the event's history, LegalWeek is moving to the Javits Center.
Moving to Javits means completely different logistics.
The venue is located on the far west side of Manhattan. It is massive, modern, and relatively isolated compared to the dense infrastructure of Midtown. If you try to wing your schedule the way you did at the Hilton, you'll spend your entire week walking in circles or sitting in traffic.
I’ve attended my fair share of legal tech conferences. And I know the difference between a high-ROI week and an exhausting one comes down to planning.
We built this guide to help you navigate the new location, map out your meeting spots, and get into the satellite events that actually matter.
Event Basics
Here’s a quick recap of the baseline details of the event:
What: LegalWeek 2026 (formerly "Legaltech")
When: March 9-12, 2026 (Monday through Thursday)
Where: North Javits Center, 445 11th Ave, New York, NY 10001
Scale: Expect 6,000-9,000+ attendees, 400+ speakers, 100+ sessions, 142+ exhibitors, representing 51 countries.
Key Tracks: AI governance, agentic AI, eDiscovery, contract management, cybersecurity, legal ops, design thinking
Keynotes
Eli Manning takes the stage on Monday from 3:30 to 4:15 PM. His session focuses on leadership, teamwork, and performing under pressure - highly relevant themes for legal ops and tech teams navigating rapid software adoption.
Mindy Kaling follows on Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, bringing a creative perspective to leadership and building resilient teams.
General session seating fills up fast, so arrive at least 20 minutes early if you want a decent view.
You can see the full speaker list here.
Registration Tiers
Here is a breakdown of the ticket tiers and what access they actually provide:
Full Conference Pass ($2,495): Your all-access ticket. This is required if you want to earn CLE credits, attend the educational sessions, and access the official networking events and provided meals. (Discounted to $900/person for teams of five or more).
Exhibit Plus Pass ($395): Grants access to the exhibit hall only. you'll be locked out of all sessions, networking events, and meals. Note: This pass is not valid for vendors or tech providers. (Discounted to $200/person for teams of five or more).
Non-Exhibiting Vendor Pass ($4,995): Mandatory for any technology or service provider attending the conference without an official booth.
You can find all the pricing details here.
The Conference Mobile App
Download "Swapcard" in your app store and search for the Legalweek 2026 event.
Don’t wait until you arrive at Javits to do this.
You need this app installed and your profile populated with a headshot before you land in New York.
You'll use it to view the real-time agenda, schedule 1-1 meetings, scout the attendee list, and navigate the massive floor plan.
Opt into messaging immediately so prospects and peers can find you.
The Big Venue Change (NY Hilton Midtown → Javits Center)
The move to the Javits Center is the defining variable for LegalWeek 2026.
The Hilton Midtown was surrounded by a dense ecosystem of restaurants, hotel bars, Starbucks, and midtown meeting spots.
You could duck out for a coffee meeting and be back in your seat in five minutes.
Javits, located on 11th Avenue, does not offer that immediate, out-the-front-door convenience.
The community sentiment is mixed about this:
There is concern among returning attendees about losing the "class reunion" feel of the Hilton lobby.
There is also legitimate worry about the "35-minute hike" from traditional midtown gathering spots, raising questions about where 5,000+ attendees will stay given the lighter density of hotels immediately adjacent to the center.
The reality is that attending sessions at Javits requires an "all-in commitment." You go for the day. You don’t drop in for an hour, go back to your Midtown office, and return later.
But there is an upside.
Having one large exhibit hall is objectively better than the cramped, split-room layouts we dealt with at the Hilton. The Javits Center is a modern, purpose-built facility designed to handle exactly this volume of foot traffic.
You trade the convenience of Midtown for a better space for booths and sessions.

Before You Go: Plan Your Schedule
With over 100 sessions across four days, you can’t attend everything.
Review the full agenda and select one primary and one backup session for each block you plan to attend.
The main topics for 2026 reflect the shift from theory to execution in legal technology.
You'll see deep dives into Agentic AI, AI governance, modern eDiscovery workflows, and legal ops modernization. While AI timekeeping and automated drafting continue to draw crowds, the focus has shifted toward how these tools integrate securely into firm-wide systems.
Here are the notable sessions to mark on your calendar:
"Unleashing the Power of Legal Operations: What It Is, What It Is Not, and Why It Works" (Monday, 2:15 PM) – Featuring Oyango Snell, CLOC President & CEO
"AI Agents 101: What They Are and Why They Matter" (Tuesday, 11:30 AM)
"From Theory to Practice: Making GenAI and Agentic AI Work in Legal" (Tuesday, 2:00 PM)
"Enterprise Alignment: Strengthening Law Firms’ AI Strategy" (Tuesday, 3:30 PM)
"Judges Panel - Safeguarding Justice: Judicial Safety, Independence, and the Rule of Law" (Wednesday, 9:00 AM)
"From Collection to Control: Mastering Modern Data and Future Complexity" (Wednesday, 11:30 AM)
"Collaboration Protocols: Coordinating Defense Counsel, Vendors, and Opposing Parties" (Thursday, 10:15 AM)
If you're attending to maintain your credentials, Full Conference Pass holders can earn up to 16 CLE credits (including up to 6 Ethics credits).
The process is strict: you have to get your badge scanned entering and exiting each session. Afterward, you submit the Digital CLE Request Form (which only needs to be done once). If you run into issues, the CLE Help Desk is located on the 4th Floor.
Before You Go: Schedule Meetings Early
The sessions provide the framework for the event. But the 1-1 meetings dictate the actual ROI of your trip. Calendars for decision-makers fill up fast. Reach out to your targets two to four weeks in advance.
Use the Swapcard app to schedule internal meetings with other attendees.
For external meetings or coordinating with vendors, rely on a tool like Calendly. Add a mandatory field for mobile numbers because trying to find someone near the Javits entrance via email when the Wi-Fi is congested is not going to work well.
If you're evaluating software, know that vendor demo rooms and private suites sell out or book up early.
If you want a private demonstration of a new platform, or want to dive deep into how a vendor handles matter attribution, book that time now.
Pre-arrange meetings for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, rather than relying solely on the chaotic 15-minute breaks between sessions.
How to Navigate the Javits Center
The Javits Center is huge, and knowing the vertical layout before you walk through the doors saves you from aimless wandering.
From the official LegalWeek emails, here is how the building breaks down:
2nd Floor: Entrance & Coat Check. Make this your first stop.
3rd Floor: Registration & Exhibit Hall. This is the main thoroughfare.
4th Floor: Educational Session Rooms, CLE & Help Desks.
5th Floor: General Session & Sponsor Meeting Rooms.
Exhibit Hall Hours:
Monday: 4:15 PM - 6:15 PM (Opening Reception)
Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Wednesday: 10:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Thursday: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Entrance tip: Direct your cab or your walking route to use the North Javits Center entrance on 11th Ave near 38th St. It is the most efficient access point.
Badge tip: Your pass type and access level are listed clearly on the back of your badge. Check it before trying to access restricted networking lunches or VIP areas.
Transportation
Getting to Javits takes some planning.
The absolute best option is taking the 7 train to the 34th Street-Hudson Yards station, which puts you a brief 4-minute walk from the Javits entrance. The 7 train connects directly to Times Square (a 3-minute ride) and Grand Central, making it the central artery for attendees staying in Midtown.
You don’t need a MetroCard to ride the subway. Almost every station supports OMNY tap-to-pay functionality. Simply tap your credit card or use Apple Pay at the turnstile.
If you prefer a taxi or rideshare, instruct the driver to drop you off at the corner of 38th Street and 11th Avenue. Don’t let them drop you blocks away in traffic. If you're taking the bus, look for the M34, M42, M50, M12, or M11 lines.
For those flying in, approximate Uber costs are ~$70 from LGA, ~$75 from Newark, and ~$100 from JFK. Fares fluctuate heavily based on time of day and traffic.
Download the MTA app for real-time subway and bus schedules to avoid standing on a platform wondering when the next train arrives.
Hotels
Because Javits is situated on the far west side, booking a hotel is different from the Hilton era.
The closest hotels include Four Points Midtown West (roughly an 8-minute walk), Casa Times Square (12-minute walk), Yotel (12-minute walk), and Ink48 (15-minute walk).
Because hotels are more spread out than they were around the Hilton, book early.
Many returning attendees are choosing to stay near the Times Square or Penn Station areas, opting to take the short 7 train ride rather than attempting to find boutique accommodations right next to the convention center.
Where to Eat & Meet
Javits does not have immediate, out-the-front-door dining like Midtown. You have to know where you're going before you leave the building.
Inside Javits:
You are not stranded if you stay inside.
The exhibit hall features concession stands, barista-style coffee carts, and various food stations.
If you hold a Full Conference pass, it includes lunch tickets for Tuesday and Wednesday only (you present these at the concession stands). Other badge types can purchase meals directly at these stands.
And if you need last-minute document printing before a client meeting, there is a FedEx Office located in the South Building at 429 11th Ave.
Walking Distance from Javits (under 10 minutes):
Hudson Yards is your lifeline. It is the nearest fallback for off-site meetings and dining.

Coffee & Quick Bites Near Javits:
For mornings or quick energy boosts, look to Hudson Yards.
Finn's Bagels opens at 6:00 AM, making it an excellent spot for early meetings before registration gets crowded.
You also have Pret a Manger, Sweetgreen, Shake Shack, and Van Leeuwen Ice Cream all within the Hudson Yards complex.
If you need a sugar rush, Schmackary's is a half-mile away and famous for its cookies.
Meeting Spot Strategy:
Unlike the old Hilton, there are fewer accessible hotel lobbies and bars for impromptu, sit-down meetings.
Identify quiet corners inside Javits early on Day 1, as they will fill up fast once attendees realize they cannot easily walk to a midtown Starbucks.
If you're commuting via train, the Penn Station area has a large building situated between 7th and 8th Avenue that features stadium-style lobby seating - a solid fallback for a quick laptop session.
Satellite Events, Parties & Receptions
LegalWeek's satellite event scene is a massive part of the overall experience.
Many attendees find that the candid conversations held at evening events provide more value than the structured daytime sessions.

Events Likely But Not Yet Confirmed
Based on established patterns from 2025, several major companies typically host private events during the week. If you're a client or active prospect, reach out directly to ask about invitations from:
Lighthouse
FTI Consulting
KLDiscovery
Consilio
DISCO
Exterro
Complete Legal Connections (who hosted a highly attended happy hour at Bartley Dunne's in 2025)
Pro tip: Many of the most valuable events are strictly invitation-only and never publicly listed. If there is a vendor you work with, or a platform you want to evaluate - whether it's regarding their practice management system or AI time keeping tool - email your representative directly and ask if they are hosting a dinner or reception.
Networking Strategy
The sessions are educational, but the real value of LegalWeek lies in the people in the hallways.
You need to attend the evening events
Yes, even when you’re tired.
Floor traffic during the day can feel light as people filter in and out of sessions, but the evening events draw heavy, concentrated participation from decision-makers.
Prepare a clear 30-second elevator pitch
Know exactly how to articulate your firm's current challenges or what your product solves without meandering.
Research attendees and speakers in advance using the Swapcard app.
When you meet someone, swap contact information efficiently. Digital business cards leveraging QR codes are increasingly common and save you from sorting through a stack of paper later.
Annotate your contacts immediately after each conversation
Write down a specific detail about the interaction.
When you follow up within 48 hours post-conference, referencing that detail is what separates your email from the generic automated blasts everyone else sends.
In the Swapcard app, go to the networking tab and explicitly opt in to messaging. Take the two minutes to add your headshot to your profile so people can visually identify you before a scheduled meeting.
What to Wear & What to Pack
The official dress code is business casual.
However, the reality of the venue dictates your packing list.
The Javits exhibit hall is massive, and you'll be on your feet for eight to ten hours a day. Leave the rigid dress shoes at home and prioritize comfortable footwear.
It is also important to know that the session rooms run notoriously cold.
Regardless of the weather outside, bring an extra layer - a blazer, sweater, or quarter-zip - specifically for the 4th-floor educational rooms.
Pack a high-capacity portable phone charger.
Relying on finding an open wall outlet inside Javits while trying to navigate the schedule on your phone is a losing game. Bring traditional business cards as a backup to your digital QR code.
First-Timer Tips
If this is your first LegalWeek, the scale of the event can be daunting.
Don’t get overwhelmed by the jargon
The legal tech industry loves acronyms.
Ask questions freely, most speakers and vendors are happy to clarify their terminology.
Build intentional buffer time between your scheduled sessions. The best and most profitable meetings are often the unplanned ones that happen while walking between the exhibit hall and the escalator.
Do not over-commit to sessions
Leave room for serendipity. The vendor hall looks intimidating with its massive, multi-story booths, but the people working them are there to have conversations, not just scan badges.
Finally, remember that Thursday is a half-day
The energy in the building drops significantly by 11:00 AM. Plan your high-priority meetings for Tuesday and Wednesday, and download the app before you arrive in New York.
Explore NYC After Hours
If you find yourself with gaps in your schedule, take advantage of the far west side location.
Time Available | Activity | Details |
30 minutes | Hudson Yards | Walk the High Line (elevated park on a former rail line) or look at the Vessel. |
1 hour | Central Park | The southern entrance is a 12-minute cab ride from Javits. See Bethesda Terrace & the Reservoir. |
2 hours | Neue Galerie | Head to the Upper East Side museum (~20-min cab). View early 20th-century German/Austrian art, including Klimt and Schiele. |
3 hours | The Morgan Library | Visit this historic library, originally J.P. Morgan's personal collection. It features rare manuscripts in exquisite rooms. |
Final Thoughts
LegalWeek 2026 at the Javits Center requires a different approach.
Attendees who map out their schedules, pinpoint Hudson Yards meeting spots in advance, and manage their party RSVPs will navigate the event more efficiently than those expecting the familiar Hilton setup.
Focus on the core tracks that matter to your practice, secure your 1-1 meetings early, and treat the evening receptions as the primary networking venue.
When the conference wraps, you will likely return to a backlog of work. If you're looking for ways to capture more billable hours and automate the busywork of manual timekeeping as you catch up, you might consider looking into Ajax (AI timekeeper).
Ajax runs quietly in the background on your desktop, tracking all the work you do for clients.
It intelligently groups tasks across the day into the correct matter, then drafts narratives based on your firm's billing guidelines - eliminating hours of busywork.
This allows you to focus on executing the new strategies you learned at the event rather than doing low value data entry. Book a demo to learn more.
