The Practice
From a Bar Upstairs to 24 Offices
King Law Offices was founded in 2002 by Brian King in Forest City, North Carolina. Today the firm spans 24 offices across the Carolinas and Tennessee, with 133 employees and over 50 practicing attorneys handling family law, criminal defense, personal injury, estate planning, and more.
With that growth came a challenge: 30% of the firm's staff are in their first law job. Timekeeping discipline varied widely across offices, and the executive team set a goal of a 10% uptick in billable capture. They needed a solution that could scale across two dozen locations without overwhelming new attorneys.
The Evaluation
Clean and Easy Beats Overwhelming
King Law's leadership evaluated multiple AI timekeeping tools before choosing Ajax. The team had prior experience with FasterLaw, a competing solution, and found its training requirements too heavy for a firm their size.
Ajax's simplicity was the differentiator. No complex training. No new workflows. The app runs in the background, captures work silently, and presents draft entries for review. For a firm with 24 offices and dozens of first-time legal professionals, that simplicity was essential.
The Results
Even Good Timekeepers Found Missed Work
The strongest validation came from Jordan Guthrie, an attorney who considered himself a disciplined timekeeper. After his first session with Ajax, he discovered entries he had missed entirely.
The quality of the AI-generated narratives was equally important. Jordan reviewed the descriptions Ajax produced and found them ready to release without edits.
Nick White, another attorney on the team, found an additional 0.2 hours during his own test, reinforcing that even small amounts of missed time add up across 50+ attorneys and 24 offices.
Beyond capturing missed entries, Ajax dramatically reduced the time attorneys spend on end-of-day timekeeping. Instead of reconstructing their day from memory, attorneys review and release pre-built entries.
