Why Weisberg & Weisberg Rolled Out Ajax, Even for Some Flat Fee Attorneys

“I am absolutely loving it. It is very agile when it comes to grasping how I flip between cases, and that’s a lot of the time that I was probably missing.”

Partner at Weisberg & Weisberg

My wife, Amy, and I run our firm, Weisberg & Weisberg. For years, our manual timekeeping was a major source of friction - a burden on our team, and not as accurate as we wanted.

When we found Ajax, it was a fundamental shift in how we capture and communicate the value of our work. The results were stunning.

How We Made Timekeeping Accurate and Effortless with Ajax

TL;DR results

  • Made timekeeping effortless for our team.

  • Improved our billing accuracy and confidence.

  • Created more detailed narratives for greater client transparency.

  • Delivered an 82x return on investment by accurately recording all work.

The situation

Our firm handles fast-paced family law and flat-fee criminal defense work. Our old manual timekeeping system, which relied on Clio timers and tracking time after work was done, was failing us.

Our family law team was under-billing because it's impossible to manually recall every task from a chaotic day. For our flat-fee criminal defense cases, we lacked the detailed records needed to transparently show the value of my work.

Implementation and adoption

We chose Ajax for its auto-capture and seamless Clio integration, but the hands-on support is what truly sold us. During our pilot with eight team members, the Ajax team wrote custom rules for each user, which made the system incredibly accurate from day one. Adoption was immediate because our team saw it made their lives easier and their timekeeping more accurate.

Results

The improvements were stunning. One paralegal who had previously struggled with underbilling was suddenly capturing $400 more each day - nearly two hours she had previously been missing. I knew we had found something transformative.

  • Just by helping chronic under-billers capture the time they had actually worked, Ajax delivered an 82x return on investment.

  • That translates to an average of +$639 per user, per day in previously unrecorded time.

Life after Ajax

My biggest takeaway is peace of mind. I'm no longer worried that my team's hard work is being undervalued. Amy loves that Ajax accurately captures the time she used to lose when switching between cases, which makes a tedious process effortless.

For my own flat-fee practice, the real win is providing greater detail to my clients. I don’t get any direct benefit from capturing more hours, but I have an Ajax seat anyway. The detailed, contemporaneous narratives it writes are critical for showing the value of my work and building client trust.

What we’d tell peers

Treat Ajax as a fundamental upgrade to your firm's operating system, not an optional tool. Just as we moved from PC Law to Clio, we now supplement Clio by using Ajax as our primary timekeeping system. It gives your team confidence and shows your clients you value transparency. It's a product every firm needs.
