The Advanced Guide to Filevine LEX Summit 2026

LEX Summit 2025 drew over 1,300 attendees to Salt Lake City, debuted Filevine's Legal Operating Intelligence System (LOIS), and featured keynotes from Bob Odenkirk (the star of Better Call Saul) and behavioral researcher Vanessa Van Edwards.
The 2026 edition moves to San Diego, expects 2,000+ attendees, and is shaping up to be Filevine's largest event yet.
If you're deciding whether to go, or you've already registered and want to get more out of the trip than a lanyard and a swag bag, this guide covers everything - dates, pricing, Basecamp track selection, session strategy, and what to do when you're back at the office on Monday.
What LEX Summit Is and What's New for 2026
LEX Summit is Filevine's annual user conference. The event combines:
Keynote presentations from industry leaders
Breakout sessions across multiple tracks
Hands-on Basecamp training workshops
CLE credit opportunities
Product reveals and demos
Networking events and a closing celebration called LEX Fest
You don't need to be a current Filevine customer to attend. The conference is open to prospective users, legal ops professionals, partners, and sponsors.
2026 details at a glance:
Dates: October 26–29, 2026 (Monday through Thursday)
Venue: Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina - 333 West Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA 92101
Expected attendance: 2,000+ legal professionals

What's different this year:
New city, bigger venue. After years in Salt Lake City, LEX Summit is relocating to a waterfront convention property with nearly 277,000 square feet of meeting and event space and 1,366 guest rooms. The move signals a substantially larger event.
Expanded Basecamp. Three distinct learning tracks tailored to different experience levels - up from less structured training in prior years.
LOIS maturation. Since its debut last year, Filevine's Legal Operating Intelligence System has expanded considerably. The December 2025 acquisition of Pincites (now LOIS for Word) brings AI-powered contract drafting directly into Microsoft Word, joining AskAI, DraftAI, AIFields, Depositions by Filevine, MedChron, and Timely. Expect deep dives into all of them.

Which Basecamp Track Fits Your Role
Basecamp is consistently rated the highest-value component of LEX Summit by past attendees. In 2026, there are three tracks. Picking the right one matters more than just showing up. Based on the 2025 track structure (the 2026 agenda hasn't been published yet - check lexsummit.com for updates):
Track | Best for | What you'll cover |
|---|---|---|
Beginner | New Filevine users, paralegals onboarding onto the platform, firm admins handling initial setup | Platform fundamentals, navigation, basic workflows, Filevine University certification prep |
Intermediate | Attorneys and legal ops managers with 6–12 months on Filevine who use it daily but haven't explored advanced features | Custom fields, reporting, document automation, workflow optimization |
Expert | Power users, legal ops leads, and firm admins who configure Filevine for their teams | Advanced integrations, API usage, complex automation, LOIS ecosystem deep dives |
A few rules of thumb:
You manage Filevine for others? Start at Intermediate minimum - even if you feel like a beginner, the configuration-focused content is what you'll actually need.
Attended Basecamp before? Go Expert.
Genuinely unsure? Email lexsummitsupport@filevine.com and the Filevine team can recommend a track based on your usage.
Prepare Before You Arrive
The ROI of any legal technology conference is largely determined before you board the plane. A few hours of preparation turns a passive conference experience into an active one.
Set specific goals. Identify 2–3 concrete outcomes you want from the trip. "Learn about AI" is too vague to be useful.
"Evaluate LOIS for Word for our contracts team" or "meet three firms our size who've solved our document assembly bottleneck" gives you a filter for which sessions to attend and which conversations to prioritize. Write them down - if you're bringing multiple people, divide sessions by goal so nobody duplicates effort.
Map your session schedule. Once the agenda is published, highlight your top sessions per time slot.
Prioritize speakers who work at firms similar to yours in size or practice area - their takeaways will transfer more directly. All sessions are recorded and available through Filevine University afterward, so attend live sessions where Q&A adds value a recording can't replicate.
Book logistics early. Filevine has a preferred-rate room block at the Marriott Marquis - available through the link on lexsummit.com/faq. These rooms fill quickly.
If you're a Marriott Bonvoy member, attach your loyalty number for complimentary Wi-Fi and potential late checkout.
Brief your firm on the investment. If you need buy-in from a managing partner, frame it in ROI terms: CLE credits replace separate CLE program spend, Basecamp training replaces consultant fees, product roadmap access gives your firm a head start on new features, and one implemented workflow change can pay for the entire trip.
Peer networking at conferences like these is where firms pick up practical, implementable ideas that don't show up in webinars.
Maximize Your Time On-Site
Attend Basecamp if you have the ticket. It runs for approximately 1.5 days and covers hands-on platform work you won't get from breakout sessions. Past attendees cite it as the single highest-value component - especially the Expert track for experienced users.
Don't skip the keynotes. The 2025 lineup included Bob Odenkirk, Vanessa Van Edwards, and attorney Alex Spiro. Even when topics seem tangential to your practice, past attendees highlight the keynotes as unexpectedly valuable for leadership and business thinking. The 2026 speaker lineup hasn't been announced yet - check lexsummit.com for updates.
Book 1:1 sessions with Filevine experts early. These are personalized coaching sessions where you can troubleshoot specific workflow challenges, preview features relevant to your practice area, or get tailored advice on your firm's setup. Come with concrete questions, not "show me what's new."
Network with intent. With 2,000+ attendees from firms across North America, LEX Summit is one of the higher-density networking opportunities on the legal conference calendar. Structured opportunities include the exhibitor hall, breakout sessions, and 1:1 expert sessions. Informal ones include meals, LEX Fest, and lobby conversations. When you meet someone whose firm solved a problem you're facing, ask for 15 minutes during a break rather than trying to go deep in a crowded reception. Connect on LinkedIn in the moment - don't rely on business cards you'll forget to follow up on.
Submit your CLE forms before you leave. CLE credit forms are available on-site and must be submitted to LEX Summit staff or the CLE admin by the end of the conference. If you don't submit them, Filevine cannot guarantee credits. Even missed sessions can count - recordings are available through Filevine University for potential credit afterward.
If you're evaluating AI tools for legal workflows - and the session slate on AI-powered depositions, contract drafting, and workflow automation suggests you should be - conferences are a good forcing function.
You're surrounded by peers who've already deployed these tools and can tell you what worked.
On the timekeeping side specifically, we built Ajax to read your screen in the background and draft time entries automatically, so lawyers review entries instead of writing them from scratch. If that's a pain point you're bringing to LEX Summit, book a demo before the conference and come with informed questions.
Turn Conference Insights into Firm-Wide Results
Most conference value evaporates within two weeks if you don't act on it. Three steps to prevent that.
Debrief within one week. If multiple team members attended, hold a 60-minute meeting where each person presents their top three takeaways and one specific change they want to implement. Compile session notes into a shared document organized by topic - topics are searchable months later, session names aren't.
Follow up with contacts within five business days. Reference something specific from your conversation. "Your approach to automating intake with Lead Docket" sticks better than "great meeting you at LEX Summit."
Implement one thing immediately. The biggest mistake firms make after conferences: coming back inspired by twelve ideas and implementing none. Pick the single highest-impact change - whether that's configuring a new Filevine workflow, adopting a LOIS feature, or rethinking your timekeeping process - and execute it within 30 days. Access session recordings through Filevine University for any details you need to revisit.
San Diego Venue and Travel Essentials
San Diego in late October is one of the easier conference trips you'll take. Average highs around 72–77°F, lows around 58–62°F, roughly a 3% chance of rain on any given day. Pack light layers and a jacket for evenings.
The venue. The Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina is a waterfront convention hotel in downtown San Diego, overlooking San Diego Bay.
Layout: Two high-rise towers, five restaurants, two bars, two outdoor pools, full spa, 24-hour fitness center
Bonvoy perks: Platinum/Titanium/Ambassador members get access to the M Club lounge
Parking: Self-parking $55/day, valet $75/day
Getting there. San Diego International Airport (SAN) is 3.3 miles from the hotel - roughly 10–15 minutes by car. No hotel shuttle. Rideshare runs $10–$20.
After hours:
Gaslamp Quarter - restaurants, bars, nightlife (10-minute walk)
Seaport Village - waterfront shopping and dining (adjacent to hotel)
Petco Park - home of the San Diego Padres (13-minute walk)
USS Midway Museum - historic aircraft carrier on the bay (15-minute walk)
Balboa Park & San Diego Zoo - short rideshare
Coronado Island - ferry from nearby Broadway Pier
Final Thoughts
LEX Summit 2026 is Filevine's largest event to date - bigger venue, expanded training tracks, and a maturing AI ecosystem that will dominate session content.
The difference between an expensive trip and a high-ROI one comes down to preparation: pick the right Basecamp track for your role, map sessions to specific firm goals, network with intent, and implement at least one concrete takeaway within a month of getting home.
